On June 17th, President Donald Trump tweeted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will begin to remove millions of illegal immigrants from the U.S.
Who Will Be Targeted?
Illegal immigration is a massive problem in the United States. To enforce the laws of the United States, the Trump administration plan to target illegal immigrants who have crossed the border illegally and have already been given their papers to leave the U.S. by a specific time.
Also, according to several news sources, the focus for ICE will be on ten major U.S. cities — Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, and San Francisco — which are known for having for large populations of illegal immigrants.
President Trump’s Plan
The large-scale illegal immigration roundup is scheduled to round-up as well as make a blitz of the arrest within the boundaries of those ten major cities. In addition to these mass immigration arrests and deportation efforts around the country, President Trump is also saying that other illegal immigrants who are now entering the border will also be removed from the United States as quickly as they are coming over.
Due to the massive size of this operation and the secrecy involved, the actual targets in these massive enforcement operations are not being disclosed to eliminate the possibilities of these areas being tipped off.
When will it happen?
The blitz was initially supposed to begin this week. Then President Trump chose to delay it by two weeks so he could negotiate with Congress.
However, if Congress does nothing to fix immigration and asylum laws, the loopholes in particular, deportations and arrests will resume. The Trump administration is intent on fulfilling President Trump’s campaign promise to be tough on border security, which includes the removal of illegal immigrants as well as building a wall on the southern border of the United States.
