Anxiety – at some point in life you may get it. Some people will experience it when they are going through a life changing event like getting married, moving, or having a baby. However, some people may experience it in their every day lives. Going to school, meeting deadlines at work, and managing work-life balances can all cause anxiety. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), 40 million adults (adults defined as 18 and over) in America or 18% of the population has an anxiety disorder (2013).
Virgos can be prone to the disorder due to perfectionism, self-doubt, and their emotional temperament.
DISCLAIMER: If you have or believe you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek out help from a therapist or doctor. The following suggestions may help lessen your stress temporarily, but DOES NOT replace a medical professional. Please be advised.
You may lessen your anxiety temporarily by:
- Taking a nice warm shower or bath. This may seem like a minor suggestion, but water has the power to soothe and calm.
- Taking a five minute stroll. There is nothing more soothing than a short stroll outside. Hearing nature around yourself can help you calm down and put things in perspective.
- Talk to someone or write it down. Talk to someone close to you and let them know you have anxiety. Receiving emotional support by talking about your worries can ease your mind. This is also true to writing down your feeling. Keep a journal. This technique may also help you find out what your triggers are.
- Lay down/relax/try yoga. Put your head down or sit still while taking long breathes is excellent. Breathing in and out will calm your mind. You will be surprised how this will make you feel after a few minutes.
