Last night, the world witnessed greatest! In Las Vegas, Nevada, future boxing Hall of Famer, Floyd Mayweather, and UFC champ, Conor McGregor, went glove to glove in a boxing ring. People dubbed this the ultimate fight. With the world of boxing colliding with the world of the UFC. Some believed McGregor would knock out Mayweather – make him touch the canvas. Claimed Mayweather was too small, old, and had brittle hands. But die-hard Mayweather fans believed McGregor had little chance. Mayweather is too skilled and experienced.
Started to Slow
Mayweather promised he would go to McGregor in the ring and the fight would not go the distance. He predicted correctly. McGregor came out strong in the first fews round. Mayweather took multiple hits. Even some unauthorized hits like being punched downward in the head. But by the fifth round, McGregor started to slow. Like a skilled boxer, Mayweather was patient. He kept his hands up and protected himself – calculating McGregor’s moves.
And like the great strategist he is, Mayweather took the punches in the earlier rounds and wore the bigger McGregor down in the later rounds. By round seven, McGregor legs started wobbling and he looked fatigue. Mayweather attacked. Throwing hooks and jabs. By round 10, McGregor was barely punching back. It was clear he was in trouble. After Mayweather unleashed multiple rights and lefts on McGregor, referee Robert Byrd made the decision to stop the fight. Securing Floyd Mayweather a TKO victory over Conor McGregor. Stopping the fight was the correct decision to avoid serious injury of McGregor. McGregor would later disagree.
Tough Irishman
Now we have to give it to Connor McGregor. That’s one tough Irishman. McGregor fought better than most thought he would. He did well for his boxing debut. He landed multiple punches and a few uppercuts, but could not go the distance. And he underestimated Mayweather’s experience.
The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was exciting and worth every penny. Two skilled fighters from two different world going at each other. What an emotional rollercoaster.
Final Thoughts
