Enjoying Poetry: Greener Grass by Erin Hanson

Greener Grass by Erin Hanson

Greener Grass is another magnificent poem by Erin Hanson. This poem reminds me of the façade people put up. Afraid of judgment. People pretend to be happy and desperately try to convince others that everything is going well when it isn’t. Society has become very superficial. We must understand appearances are not what they seem. Avoid being envious of others.

This poem also reminds us to be thankful for what we have.  Helen Keller once said, “I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet”.  We all face disadvantages, but some face greater challenges than others. You never know who may covet your life. Yet, you complain. Life is a crazy journey. Love others and be humble.

Greener Grass by Erin Hanson

What if grass is greener on the other side,

Because it’s always raining there,

Where the ones who never fail to give,

Hardly have enough to spare,

Where the people with the broadest smiles,

Have pillows filled with tears,

And the bravest ones you’ve ever known,

Are crippled by their fears,

It’s filled with lonely people,

But they’re never seen alone,

Where those that lack real shelter,

Make you feel the most at home,

Maybe their grass looks greener,

Because they’ve painted on its hue,

Just remember from the other side,

Your grass looks greener too.
